MASST-R Module 2: Social-Awareness
In MASST-R, students learn that, whatever their backgrounds, they can function successfully in the social environment only if they appreciate and understand who they are and how they became who they are. Comparing and contrasting themselves to the larger environment is essential to that self-definition. As a result, an appreciation of the similarities and differences in their experiences, cultures, and environment is essential to the appreciation of self and the respect for others that are critical to responsible participation in society. Through the students’ examinations of people in their community whom they admire and respect and who have managed to achieve some degree of happiness and success despite limitations, students can discover the resources in themselves that will push back the limits of their environments.
